Sales Professional

Sales representatives sell goods and services to retail, wholesale, commercial, industrial and professional clients. They are employed by establishments that produce or provide goods and services, such as petroleum companies, producers of food, beverage or tobacco products, clothing manufacturers, motor vehicle and parts manufacturers, hotels, business service firms and transportation companies. Sales representatives for wholesale trade who are supervisors are also included in this unit group.

Sales representatives promote sales to existing clients, identify and solicit potential clients and provide clients with a presentation on the benefits and uses of goods or services. They estimate or quote prices, credit terms, warranties and delivery dates, and they prepare or oversee preparation of sales contracts. They also consult with clients after sale to resolve problems and provide ongoing support, and they review and adapt to information regarding product innovations, competitors and market conditions. They may supervise the activities of other sales representatives.

Successful graduates will be credited with the educational component of Canadian Sales Professional designation by the Canadian Professional Sales Association.
