Practical Nursing

Sprott Shaw College’s Practical Nursing program will prepare students for a rewarding career in health care. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in BC provide nursing services to patients and their families across the lifespan in a variety of hospital, community, residential care and home care environments under the direction of Physicians, RNs and RPNs. The care PNs provide is based on focused patient assessments and care planning procedures. They perform nursing interventions such as:

- Assistance with bathing and personal care
- Assistance with elimination (inserting catheters and instilling enemas)
- Patient and family teaching
- Vital signs monitoring (temperature, pulse, respiration’s and blood pressure)
- Wound care management
- Infection control management

- Assisting with and monitoring nutritional intake
- Conducting specimen collection
- Medication administration
- Observing and documenting therapeutic effects
- Comprehensive medical assessments
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Pain control management
- Peripheral intravenous device management

We are now offering Biology, English and Math upgrade courses. The cost of this upgrade will be credited to your account once you have been accepted as a Practical Nursing student at Sprott-Shaw College. Speak with a Career Advisor for more details.
